Cat
Furniture Under $10
I discovered some great and
inexpensive cat furniture by accident quite a few years ago. My
wife had gone to one of the popular craft stores and bought some
items for Xmas. One of the items was a basket to put the Christmas
Cards we get. When she brought it in the house and set it on the
table, one of our cats immediately went over to check it out.
Nothing new about that but then
she jumped right in and snuggled down and promptly went to sleep.
My wife left her there and decided to let her take a nap before
she put the cards in it.
A little later my wife noticed
that Baby (the cat) had decided to go for a snack and she put the
Christmas Cards in the basket. About 10 minutes later Baby came
back, pushed all the cards to one side and got back in
"her" basket.
| Well, from
that day on Baby was in the basket most of the time. We
have multiple cats so this created a little problem since
once the other cats saw the basket, they too wanted to
take a nap. So, we went and got several more and put them
around the house. The baskets are a favorite of all our
cats and they frequently trade baskets on any given day.
If someone foolishly puts something in the baskets, the
cats will take them out or just lay on top of whatever is
in there at the time. |

You can find every size, shape,
and color of basket at most of the craft shops for well under $5.
We even found one with imitation alligator covering for $7. The
cats love them all.
Now my wife brings home open
drawers, fabric covered boxes, and other items that the cats love
to take their naps in or just lay in and watch what ever is going
on around them. We turn them over and the cats still will crawl
underneath them and hide out.
We also have a picnic basket that
has a lid that my wife cut a hole in the side and the cats love to
crawl in there and look out the opening. They love to attack any
one or cat that walks by from this basket. Ambushes are frequently
and surprise the unsuspecting.
There's all sorts of things in a
craft store that can be a great piece of furniture for your cat.
You can decorate them, or just leave them as they come and your
cat will still love them. Most are under $5 and will fit in any
room.
You don't have to spend an
outragious amount of money for something for your cat to sit on or
in this case, sit in. Even if they scratch and sharpen their claws
on them, just throw them out and get a new one for that small of a
cost.
Baskets are easy to clean, just
vacum them to get all the cat hair and wipe them down with a damp
cloth. Be careful to find baskets without any protruding ends, or
anything that the cat may want to chew off. Most don't but always
check the surface and remove any items that might poke or hurt
your pet.
Next time you go to the craft
shop, look around for baskets or other items that could be good
for cat furniture. You'll be surprised at how many items will work
and how in expense they can be for hours of cat fun.
